I decided to start a blog to attempt to keep my favorite people up to date with what is going on in my life. I am going to try to update this when I think it is necessary, key word try.
So, as some may know I played for the Seattle Sounders(semi-pro) this past summer('08) after taking about 2 years off, it was a blast!!! About a year ago it was announced that they were going to start a women's professional league(WPS) in March of 2009. With that, after I went to Virginia Beach with the Sounders to compete in the Final Four, I was invited to a WPS combine. A combine is kind of a tryout, players are invited to it so that all the coaches can see them play with and against some of the best. This was a great experience(quite hot as it was in Florida in September), and I got the opportunity to play with some amazing players. I didn't get a ton of action in the combine, but enough to get invited back to another combine in December in Chula Vista, CA at the Olympic Training Center. Not only was the soccer a great experience, but getting the opportunity to see, stay at and train at the Olympic Training Center was such a treat. All of these combines have to lead up to something right? Right!! The WPS draft was held on January 16th. This draft was the last of the drafts and it was 10 rounds(did I mention there are 7 teams?). I wasn't really expecting to get drafted, but I was still nervous and hopeful. Nope, I didn't get drafted, but I received a call from the Bay Area team immediately following the draft. He asked me to attend preseason with the Bay Area team, if I have a good performance while there, I may have the opportunity to play for the Bay Area team for the season(thru August)!!! They are only going to keep 2 keepers total, so it won't be easy, but I am up for the challenge!! I will be leaving for the Bay Area at the end of February and I will be there for a little more than 2 weeks....this means that the next 6 weeks are going to be filled with running, training, preparing mentally and realizing what is going on!!
The main reason this is blog is called Chasing a Dream is because when I was in 5th grade(I think), I wrote a book(with pictures and all), basically it said..."I love soccer, I love soccer so much, that I am going to be a professional soccer player when I grow up and I am going to play soccer until I am in a wheelchair". Yes, that is what it said, I even drew a picture of me in a wheelchair...haha. Anyways, that is my story and I am sticking to it.
If you want to check out the details and stay up to date on the league, check it out at http://www.womensprosoccer.com/
